Look for the red chimney and the dog on the roof box. If the swing bridge is stuck we'll be late — ring ahead.
I'm Sal. Six years ago I swapped a rented kitchen for nb Halfpenny, a 58-foot traditional narrowboat with a solid-fuel range and exactly enough counter space to make fudge — which is how this whole thing started.
The sweet shelf is the old-school stuff: treacle toffee pulled on Thursday mornings, fudge cut into slabs on the hatch table, humbugs boiled slow so they're properly chewy. Recipes came off my gran's index cards and they haven't been improved, because they don't need it.
The dog counter came later, after Bramble the spaniel joined crew and turned out to be a shameless beggar. Every treat up front is baked aboard on Fridays — peanut butter, venison, liver — with no rawhide, no fillers and nothing I wouldn't eat myself. Bramble taste-tests everything. It's a hard job and she loves it.
If you're moored behind us and the kettle's on, come say hello. If the swing bridge is stuck, we're running late — ring ahead.
Order ahead, ask what's on the board this week, or book the boat for your festival.
If we're trading it might be teatime before you hear back — the kettle's usually on when you do.
